In Progress – Ten Year Plan Quilt

This coming school year, my kids are going to have co-op classes from 9:30am-2:30pm every Tuesday. I’ve been looking for a portable project to work on while they’re in class. I actually thought about taking my sewing machine with me to work on something, but quickly realized that wasn’t going to be a good idea. 🙂 I finally hit on the idea of trying out English Paper Piecing – small, portable, PERFECT!! I decided to try it out ahead of time and I’m really enjoying it. I’m using 1″ hexies and mini charm packs, which are the perfect size for that size hexie. I like EPP so much that I’m planning to make a quilt for our bed. I estimate I’ll need about 3,500 hexies for the project, hence the name of the quilt – Ten Year Plan. 😀

Here are the sets I’ve made so far:

Lella Boutique – Little Miss Sunshine
01-lella boutique - little miss sunshine

Lella Boutique – Gooseberry
02-lella boutique - gooseberry

Bonnie & Camille – Scrumptious
03-bonnie & camille - scrumptious

I’m going to keep a running total of all the hexies I’ve made in each post that I make about this project. 🙂
42 x 3 = 126
126/3500 = 3.6% complete

  1. I like that you decided to give it a try in advance, and how wonderful that you enjoy it so much! Do you plan to set the groupings off with borders of white or another neutral so that each fabric line has a clear definition or do you think you’ll put them all directly together?

    1. I haven’t really thought about how I’m going to put them together yet, but I’m thinking they’ll have a solid or low volume border – white or gray maybe? But I’ll probably change my mind a dozen times between now and then. 😀

    1. I think the name was actually my husband’s idea originally. He asked how long this quilt would take to make and he estimated about ten years. 😀 I’m hoping to beat the estimate. 😀
