A few weeks ago, I heard about the 2016 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop<\/a>. The goal of the 2016 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop is to provide advice, tech help, and introduce new modern quilters to the online community. I fit the registration criteria, so I figured what the heck and I applied. I was excited to find out I was chosen to participate!<\/p>\n

Let’s start with a little bit about me. My name is Laurel and I love to quilt! I’ve been sewing since I was a little kid, but I got into quilting seriously in 2014. I started this blog to keep track of my projects in progress and my finished quilts.<\/p>\n

When I’m not locked away with my sewing machine, I’m a homeschooling mom of two wonderful kids – Alison and Benjamin – and wife to my awesome husband, Kurt. I also love counted cross stitch, crochet, reading, and gardening.<\/p>\n

In my previous life, I was a project manager for a multi-billion-dollar construction company. Most of my projects were in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. It was interesting and fun, but I wanted to stay home once our daughter was born.<\/p>\n

My mom taught me to sew clothes when I was 10 or 11, but I didn’t start quilting until 2014. I’m totally in love with quilting now! I love picking the fabrics and deciding on the pattern and then seeing the whole thing come to life under my sewing machine needle. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

One of my favorite quilts is my first quilt, which was a basic patchwork beach quilt made with charm packs of the Horizon line by Kate Spain for Moda. Kate Spain is one of my very favorite fabric designers. I haven’t seen a line of hers yet that I didn’t love.<\/p>\n

Snapshots is another of my favorite quilts. It was a Block-of-the-Month from Fat Quarter Shop<\/a>. I hadn’t been into quilting for very long, so I wasn’t sure I could do it, but I decided I definitely couldn’t do it if I didn’t try. \ud83d\ude42 I bought the kit and went to work. It was quilted by Robin at Ormond Beach Quilts<\/a>. After I finished it, I decided to submit it to be considered for the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival<\/a> and it was accepted! I ended up not winning a ribbon, but it was so exciting to see my quilt hanging up with all the other beautiful quilts at the show. \ud83d\ude42

My current favorite is my Ugly Christmas Sweaters quilt. The pattern is by Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts<\/a>. I used Kona Solids, a background by Studio E and backing by Michael Miller. The quilting is by Robin at Ormond Beach Quilts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

My best tip for quilt bloggers is to post lots of pictures of your beautiful quilts! I love scrolling through pictures of other peoples’ lovely work. The brighter and more colorful, the better as far as I’m concerned. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

My best tip for quilters is to not worry about making your quilts perfect. As Jenny at Missouri Star Quilt Co.<\/a> says, “Finished is better than perfect.” I totally agree! The imperfections are proof that my quilts are made with love. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

My quilting question is who is your favorite fabric designer? My favorites are Bonnie & Camille, Kate Spain and Alison Glass. I love bright and colorful and these three definitely fit that bill! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

\nFavorite vacation spot: My dream vacation spot would be a beautiful tropical island with my sewing machine and unlimited fabric and thread. Now that’s perfection! <3<\/p>\n
